1 Carat PeridotPeridot derives its name from the Greek word "peridona", which means something "to give richness". Peridot is one of the few gemstones that come in one color only. Its color can vary over all shades of yellowish green and olive, and even to the brownish green, but most prized peridots are eye clean and have a deep, lime green color.
For ages people believed that peridot had the power to ward off evil spirits, nightmares and enchantments. It was also used as a medicine to treat asthma and other ailments. Its power was considered most powerful when the stone was set in gold.
Peridot is available in a range of sizes, shapes and color hues. The peridot is mostly faceted in classical table cuts, or in round, antique, as an octahedron or oval.
Peridot is the gemstone form of the mineral olivine. The vivid green color with the slight tinge of gold is caused by very fine traces of iron.
Peridot is relatively soft - only 6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
